Colourful Devon Art filled with Joy
My works are first created in watercolour or pastel then transformed into digital works. I love to capture the vibrant nature of Devon life within my pieces.
Many of my pieces are taken from elements of a place. I capture the slant of a roof or the curb of a street and create a piece that celebrates Devon as a whole. This is why many of my pieces will remind you of a place you can't quite put your finger on.
I work from a small garden studio in Kingskerswell, Devon. My garden is filled with life and nature and a great place to focus on my work.
My sweet little cocker spaniel lily is always by my side and loves exploring new places with me.
Once I was devoted to a single style, I feared to stray from the beaten path and this, over time, made me feel confined and constricted. Some years ago I took some much needed advice from a wise friend and began to explore a variety of avenues.
I now happily play with a plethora of styles within my work. They change to suit the scene and the feel I want the piece to convey.
As an artist it can feel like a dilution of your unique style to add a jumble of different looks and feels to your collection. This act has freed me and I feel I have developed so much as an artist and a person since diversifying my approach.
Some of my favourite and best selling works would not have been created if I hadn't taken that advice. For this I am eternally grateful.
I take great pride in the fact that I am completely self taught. My love of exploration and my devotion to my skill means that I am forever learning and adapting my approach to suit the medium I am attempting to capture. I try to create one new piece each week. This is not always possible with attending shows and accepting commissions but I feel it keeps my passion alive and ensures complacency doesn't set in.
